Holy Week 2024: EP 2 – Shabbat

Holy Monday.

People are preparing for the Shabbat day. It’s amazing how these people seriously celebrate each Shabbat day, in each house, family are gathered in a table full of food and starts with the Shabbat prayer.

“Now the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts, and God completed on the seventh day His work that He did. And God abstained on the seventh day from all the work He did. And God blessed the seventh day, and He hallowed it, for thereon, He abstained from all the work that God created to do. Blessed are you, Lord our God, Ruler of the universe, who creates the fruit of the vine. You have lovingly and willingly given us your Shabbat as an inheritance in memory of creation. Because this is the first day of our holy assemblies in memory of the Exodus from Egypt. Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the universe, who brings forth the bread from the earth. Amen.”

In the scene where Nicodemus found how Mary was redeemed, I admire him for not taking the credits in front of the authorities. I can say it was a humble reaction. And when he learned about Mary’s healing, that someone else did it, he’s astonished to know who that is and very curious. Somehow, he really wanted to know him perhaps because he’s looking forward to it, he’s looking forward for someone who will do miracles in their times, he is probably been waiting for the Messiah. He was also thrilled to know how Jesus heals without seeking for credits and from there, he was surprised and he somewhat already admire Jesus even without personally meeting him yet.

James and Thaddeus now appear in this episode. It is surprising that they’ve known Jesus already and that He is their teacher or rabbi. So then, in this movie, Jesus is already currently teaching God’s word to people.

On the other hand, I feel sorry for Matthew. I think he’s an honest man, and it’s those Jews who are doing something from behind. I feel sorry to know that Matthew doesn’t have relationship with his father and that he has to celebrate the Shabbath alone with a dog.

Sometimes, when you’re doing something right, you have to bear doing it alone. Sometimes, it’s painful to know that no one seem to notice and still you got to do the right thing because it is the right thing to do – whether someone sees it or not. And when you’re in there, there’s a feeling of satisfaction, greater than the credits from others. Sometimes, you can’t just describe that feeling enough. And just with that feeling alone makes you just go on and live the life you chose.
